I am always asked, 'What is the sure way of getting into the NHS and getting sponsorship? '

If you want an NHS sponsorship in October 2025, you have to plan and be strategic. I'm sharing it all below. These are strategies I have used and advised many to use - and they have results to show for it.

Further in this blog, you will see about 30 roles that meet sponsorship rules within the NHS. There are also many resources available to help you with your application.

Simple steps into the NHS

The 3-Step Path to NHS Sponsorship

1) Get into a Band 2 role (your entry point)

Start in an entry role like Healthcare Support Worker or Healthcare Support Worker - Any band 2 role that;

a) full-time, permanent role

b) Irrespective of the salary threshold

c) focus on NHS experience, trainings and the NHS Care

Certificate.

What to highlight in applications: reliability, compassion, teamwork, accurate documentation, willingness to learn.

2) Earn your NHS Care Certificate & build core skills

Complete the Care Certificate (15 standards) and log competencies (e.g., observations, infection prevention, manual handling, ECGs, wound support, basic IT/EMIS use).
Ask to shadow, join ward training, and collect feedback from supervisors to evidence progression.

3) Apply for Band 3 clinical roles (your sponsorship

gateway)

Once you’ve got 3 to 6 months experience + the Care Certificate, you can now target Band 3 roles (Clinical Support Worker, Community HCA, Therapy Assistant, Outpatients/Phlebotomy, Theatres).

The secret: Many Trusts consider internal Band 2–>3 movers for sponsorship, especially in hard-to-recruit services or rural areas.
