What You Should Be Doing Now If These Changes Affect You Negatively
1. Take Care of Your Mental Health:
If you are in a difficult position right now because of these changes, just remind yourself that the world will not end. This is only a policy which comes and go. You will get through this, and as always, with a testimony.
2. Listen for more Information as Updates Continue:
Nothing is final at this moment, even immigration lawyers and experts are not certain of the next changes. Listen for more information, and no matter how the news appears - remain positive.
3. Shift Your Mindset:
Prepare not just for ILR, but for the life you want after it. Focus on financial security, upskilling, and long-term goals.
4. Think Beyond the Visa:
A Skilled Worker visa is a step—not the destination. Start aiming for higher income or career progression. ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) won’t transform your life overnight, it is your mindset and the skills you acquire (mostly for free) that will change things.
Where You Stand Now (If You’re Already on a Visa)
If you're on a Skilled Worker visa—especially in lower-skilled roles (RQF 3–5)—you’re protected for now:
You can renew your visa
Switch employers within eligible roles
Bring dependents
Take on supplementary work
But ILR will now require a higher salary and, if approved, 10 years’ residence. Protections for lower-skilled roles may eventually phase out, so start planning your next move.

Key Changes Effective from 22 July 2025
Only RQF Level 6+ roles will qualify for new visa applications
Over 100 mid-level roles (e.g., chefs, retail managers) are ineligible unless on the Temporary Shortage List (TSL)
Salary thresholds:
£41,700 for general roles
£33,400 for new entrants/STEM/PhDs
£17.13 minimum hourly rate
ILR now requires 10 years’ continuous residence, with no salary discounts
Care Worker visa route ends in July 2028
Dependants no longer allowed for TSL or lower-skilled roles
Employer costs up—Immigration Skills Charge increased by 32%
Language requirements are tougher
Even minor offences may now result in deportation

The Bigger Picture
These reforms affect not just individuals but entire families and industries:
Employers must rethink recruitment strategies
Families face separation, as dependents are restricted
Key industries like care and hospitality will feel the talent gap
ILR is harder to reach, requiring more years and more income

What You Should Do Next
Check if your role qualifies under RQF Level 6+, and meets the new salary thresholds
Prepare early for ILR under the new 10-year rule (if they change to this)
Care workers: plan to switch before 2028
Upskill and update your CV to target eligible roles
Save more to handle rising fees
Avoid legal issues—even small offences now carry big risks
Stay connected with trusted support networks for updates and advice

This is not the End
The 2025 visa changes are tough, but they’re not the end of your journey. They're a chance to adapt, grow, and plan smarter.
Take action, stay informed, and lean on trusted support.
You’re not alone—and your future in the UK is still possible.
