Most of the employers on this job board want:
1. Care Certificate Competence
They want the Care Certificate – a 15-standard training required for UK health and social care workers. Only full programs, not short courses, are valid. A genuine Care Certificate takes at least 12 weeks to complete.
2. Tailored Applications
Always outline the person specification for any job you’re applying for. Use this outline to design your CV, supporting statement, or application. Avoid sending generic CVs. Instead, tailor each one by using keywords and phrases from the person specification to match what the employer is looking for.
3. Apply Early – Don’t Wait!
Always apply as soon as the job is posted. Many organisations close applications early once they receive a high volume—often between 200 to 300 applications per role. If only one person is needed, shortlisting begins quickly. Delaying your application could mean missing out entirely.
4. Reliability & Professionalism
At your interview, arrive early, dress professionally, and confirm your attendance in advance. Remember, interviews are often more about personality fit than intelligence—employers want to know if they’ll enjoy working with you. Let your confidence, attitude, and professionalism shine through.

Q: Do I need NVQ or qualifications?
Many organizations may say they need these qualifications but it is not a rule of thumb. Your experience is more important and and sometimes senior roles usually require NVQ Level 2/3.
Q: Is the Care Certificate essential?
Yes. Most providers expect it within the first 12 weeks. If you do not have it, just write that you are willing to begin the training immediately.
Q: What’s the difference between an HCA and a Support Worker?
HCAs often work in clinical settings (NHS), while Support Workers focus more on daily living tasks and emotional support in homes and communities.
